WHAT IS PRP?
Platelet Rich Plasma – or ‘PRP’, as it is more commonly know, is a pioneering biological treatment for musculo-skeletal problems such as sports injuries and osteoarthritis. The platelet rich plasma is separated from a blood sample, taken from your arm, by a process called centrifugation which spins the blood at high speeds. The healing potential and power of platelets and their function has been studied for decades and it has been proven that platelets help to improve the healing process by releasing and attracting various healing molecules and cells to the affected areas. This research has led to the development of PRP therapy where this platelet rich plasma is injected into the body as treatment for various conditions. Our work is supported by evidence of its use in sports injuries and joint problems such as Osteoarthritis. It is also used in other areas of medicine such as plastic surgery, urology, gynaecology and other surgical fields.
The orthopaedic community has previously relied heavily on steroid injections as a non-surgical treatment to help athletes and individuals return to pain free function and activity. Unfortunately, despite steroids providing good pain relief and reduction in inflammation, they have been shown to harm and weaken the substance of tendons, ligaments and cartilage, and therefore their use is now discouraged.
PRP however is a completely biological solution, with no known major side effects. The platelets are your own and so there is no risk to you. * (Please note that not everyone will be eligible or respond to the PRP treatment. Please read more about this here)

NO DOWNTIME
Because PRP therapy is delivered by injection, there is no downtime – you can return to your daily activities straight after PRP treatment

NATURAL OPTION
Platelet rich plasma can be extracted from your own blood and isn’t treated chemically or otherwise before being injected into the affected site

LESS INVASIVE
PRP therapy promotes self-healing to prolong joint mobility, potentially reducing or delaying the need for invasive surgery

LOW RISK
Platelet rich plasma is a low risk treatment using your own cells, removing the potential for allergic reactions and disease transmission.
